Yves, Dimitri,
Christian and Alain, 4 guys from Namur (Belgium), whose
name has become famous by playing the most famous music in pop
history : the BEATLES repertoire.
The story of the band began in November
87, and at this time, they
performed a set quite different from today. That period corresponded
with covers from the beginning of the Beatles
career like "She's a
woman", "Anytime at all", "It's
only love ", "She loves you " ...
Later on, pushed by the need to
play a more ‘serious’ repertoire and by
overwhelming public demand, Abbey Road successfully
played songs
like "Penny Lane" , "Magical
Mystery Tour" or "A day in the life"...
Step by step, they became more and
more popular and they have been
able to take part in Beatles' conventions since
1988. Moreover, they
met and played with famous pop stars like Pete Best (1st drummer of
the band which was replaced by Ringo Starr), Joe Flannery (one of the
Beatles' manager who will later invite Abbey Road
in Liverpool), Tony
Sheridan (whose concerts welcomed the Beatles in first part and with
whom Abbey Road improvised a amazing "Jam-session"), and Alf
Bicknell (the Beatles' chauffeur).
Since 92’, the band has played in
flanders, Germany, the Netherlands,
France, Switzerland and UK.
In september '93, they played an
opening for famous french singer :
Jacques Dutronc,
in front of 60.000 people.
On 4th, 5th and 6th of March 94,
they flew to Liverpool for a concert in
the heart of the Beatlemania. The band came to Britain with hundreds of
belgian followers, and local Beatles' fans recognised
them as the best
representative of the Beatles' music, despite
the fact that many others
tried to do so.
Their first CD, called "Now"
was born in April '94 and is composed of 4
original creations followed by 2 live songs, recorded during a concert.
With records selling like hot cakes, the producer and the record
company decided to produce a second one (a double CD), which was
recorded ‘live’ and came out in 1995.
In July '94, Abbey Road performed
a big concert in the Castle of Vesves
in Dinant. They were assisted by a symphonic orchestra of 30 musicians
and 10.000 fans attended the event.
In 10 years of existence, Abbey
Road has played more than 600 gigs,
and their motto is still "let’s go to the toppermost of the poppermost",
like Paul and John used to say.
